Jim Simonds has taken seriously his 30+ years in dentistry and teaching. He chose the specialty of periodontics because of its biologic foundation, its demand in the community, and because he feels caring for people is a privilege.

Since completing his training in Boston and New Orleans, Dr. Simonds and his wife, Dana, have become tightly integrated into Northern California. Dana is a Superior Court judge and their children are winding their way through the public schools.

His family actively supports Canine Companions for Independence and their breeder dog, Lista, visits the office most Wednesdays. They all floss daily.

Although Jim has serious academic interests, a commitment to physical fitness, and a strong sense of community, he attempts to approach practice with gentility and good humor.

Junji Uemura, DDS – or Dr. Jay, as his patients and staff affectionately refer to him – received his BS degree in Biochemistry at Cal Poly State University San Luis Obispo and worked as an analytical chemist for six years before realizing that dentistry was his true calling. He found that periodontics allowed him to combine his love of science with his surgical talent and his natural enjoyment of people.

Dr. Jay earned his DDS degree at New York University and completed his specialized periodontal training at University of California San Francisco. Dedicated to providing state-of-the-art periodontal services in a caring and comfortable manner, Dr. Jay has extensive training in dental alveolar surgery, dental implants, and conscious sedation. He has been awarded Board Certifi cation by the American Academy of Periodontology.

Dr. Jay met his wife, Kathy, while they were both attending Cal Poly. They enjoyed traveling in the US and Europe, but fell in love with Sonoma County while visiting the area on camping trips up the coast. Settling here in 2002, Dr. Jay and Kathy now have 3 young children and enjoy family activities. Dr. Jay’s interests include baseball and films (he’s always ready for a pop culture quiz!) but music is his favorite pastime.

He has a varied collection of musical instruments, and his children join him in playing their favorites in many impromptu family jam sessions.
